LITERARY LUNCH and noted author Nikki Mottram (12.00noon – 2.00pm) – Toowoomba Masonic Hall – Join us to hear about the locally flavoured novel Crows Nest. Tickets are $40 which includes a welcome drink and a two course lunch, raffle, literary activities and book signings. Tickets available at Literary Lunch | Mosaic Hues.
Fri 2 June
Evening – POETRY SLAM – (7:00 – 9:00 pm), Muay Thai, 88 Water Street – a fun night with something different for sure. Fund-raiser for the Toowoomba Hospital Foundation. A Poetry Slam is a fun, structured competition where poets share their original poems during a 3 minute timeframe in a competition decided by the live audience and a panel of judges.
The format of this spoken word genre is as follows:
- It is original poetry drawing an emotional response from your audience
- It fits within the 3 minute time limit
- It is simple and relates to the time and place and perhaps age of the particular audience
- It vibrates with passion and rhythm and uses a range of senses, imagery and pace
- No props, costumes or music are allowed
Poetry Slams are highly entertaining and the program is lively. First prize – $350, runner up – $100.
