Ruth Atkinson is an independent Producer based in Toowoomba.   She contributes her extensive experience in Arts Management as an independent Creative Producer for RAVA Productions and Co-Director of the Curious Arts Festival.

For RAVA Productions, she partnered to develop a production of Charlotte’s Web casting Toowoomba connected emerging artists.  The production has been seen by more than 11,000 children and families since 2018 with Toowoomba sell-out seasons, its 2019 western Queensland tour and 2021 tour to 13 venues in northern Queensland.  In 2022, it tours to 22 outback Queensland communities.  RAVA’s follow up production The Wind in the Willows,  tours in September 2022 and will travel again in April/May 2023.

For Curious Arts Festival, Ruth programs contemporary work by Queensland artists across circus, cabaret, music and visual art forms.  The Festival encourages collaborations and commissions appointing recognised artists to work closely with emerging Toowoomba performers.

Ruth was a 2021 Creative Business Champion for the Regional Arts Services Network (RASN) providing strategic direction, development and projects planning for Queensland artists and their communities.

Formerly Director at the Judith Wright Centre of Contemporary Arts (2008-2016), Ruth founded the Fresh Ground artist-in-residence program supporting the development of over 90 Queensland performing arts productions.  Her previous roles included Program and Marketing Manager of Toowoomba’s Empire Theatres, Venue/Events Manager at Queensland University of Technology and Executive Officer for Northern Australian Regional Performing Arts Centres Association.  In media, she worked on-air for ABC Regional Radio and was a News & Production Director for Sunshine Television Network/Mackay Television Ltd.

Ruth holds an MBA and Post Graduate qualifications in Arts and Cultural Management and a Bachelor of Business (Marketing).  She is CEO/Owner of Visual Focus, an audio-visual integration and events company based in Toowoomba. Ruth Atkinson
